I love Fee’s designs! I love the pattern paper combinations and fun elements! Fee can totally rock a boys kit too! I’m excited to be welcoming her back to The Digi Files again! Fee is just a super talented designer and all of her kits bring a smile to my scrapping face! Let’s take a closer look at “Just Because” that is included in The Digi Files this month:

Hi, my name is Fee Jardine and I am an Aussie SAHM of 3 children aged between 4 and 9. We live in the northern Australian state of Queensland, are renovating our house. I am totally self taught in terms of Digital Design, ex military and I am slightly, okay, completely addicted to Iced coffee (the Aussie version of coffee and sugar in a big cup of cold milk)…3 or 4 times a day…can’t get enough!
I first started scrapbooking with paper in 2002 just after my first child was born. And like most scrappers was utterly addicted from day one. Gosh I had soooooo many supplies and I don’t think we saw our dining table during the years that I was a paper scrapper. I discovered Digital scrapbooking a week before my second child was born in 2005. If I was addicted to paper scrapbooking, I was TOTALLY obsessed with Digital.
Dang it was perfect…the undo button was perfect…the no mess was perfect…pretty things to play with…everything to keep a crafty girl happy! From day one I was also making things for my layouts. I’m a “gotta try that” sort of girl so I just gave it whirl plus back in 2005 the papers and elements were VERY basic so it was pretty easy. Digital ribbons and buttons and lots of bad paper textures…eeeek!
I had a dream start to my designing. Six months after discovering digital I posted a digital layout on an Aussie Scrapbooking site. The layout listed one of my goals as “selling my Digital Scrapbooking designs online”. The owner happened to see the layout and asked me if I wanted to sell my designs there and so after freaking out, feeling sick in the stomach and having a mild panic attack I agreed. Silly really, but I didn’t think I was ready but then I am a procrastinator. Not long after that, I saw a call at The Digi Chick, popped my application in the mail and luckily was offered a spot to sell there. After a couple of happy years there I then moved to the Sweet Shoppe which is where I currently sell and love it!
I have always been creative. I remember designing my dream home when I was nine, making clothes for my Barbie at 10, wanting to be a fashion designer, interior designer, graphic designer. Every day I create and it’s because it’s just what I do…I can’t help it. Add things like inspiring magazines, colours, the things my kids do and I’m super inspired.
I’m giggling as I write this…I’m about to share what I use…as I sit at my little wonky desk in the middle of my living room. And when I say little and wonky, I mean little and wonky. Probably less than 3 ft wide and one of the wheels has gone all wobbly. No flash studio for me lol! I’m glad I don’t have to share a photo…it would probably be quite embarrassing.
Anyhoo I use a PC running Windows Vista and using 4GB RAM. The main programs that I use to create my digital products are Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Illustrator CS3. If I need something like glitter, I use Artrage to create that (a great value product that my 9yo daughter loves too). Within Photoshop I use Alien Skin Eye Candy and Mr Retro filters, Atomic Cupcake actions and also photo editing actions from Paint the Moon.
My other favourite things to use include my Wacom Bamboo Fun table, Canoscan 8800F Scanner and Epson R290 Printer.
I have two cameras that I use. My little point and shoot is a Canon IXUS 100IS and my digital SLR is a Canon 400D.
If you are struggling with your journaling, the words aren’t coming together, everything you write sounds sucky…grab your MP3 player, iphone or any other device that records sound. Find a nice quiet spot (if possible in a house with kids lol), push the record button and then talk about your layout subject (like you are chatting to your best friend). And then when finished, transcribe…word for word (except maybe the ums and aahs). Ta da…your journaling is done and done in a way that is truly your voice.
My favourite product would be the What’s happening at School kit and matching sticker pack. I loved doing the doodles for these little suckers. Of course I got carried away and my original idea of a kit changed to kit with sticker pack. I guess when you get on a roll you get on a roll. Another thing I love about these two products is that they coordinate with the What’s happening kit which is more generic. My vision was to create two kits that you could mix and match to complete a big project like a coordinated book or calender.
Of my current kits available, the biggest seller is Happy Days which is one of my favourites.
