LINDSAY RICHES and I Go Way Back

DesignersStudio

I’m super excited to welcome Lindsay Riches to The Digi Files this month!  I’ve been a fan of Lyndsay’s designs since 2004 when I first discovered Scrapbook Bytes.  Lyndsays products were some of the first I purchased.  Back then, digital designers would often put out a CD that included several complete kits and would ship them to your house.  I think I even still have that CD  I bought from her in my archives (and used it over and over on my early layouts).  Lyndsay’s super fun theming, mixtures of patterns, and great textures really come together to create easy to use collections!  Let’s take a closer look at “Reach for the Sky” that is included in The Digi Files this month:

I’m Lyndsay Riches, mom of 3 girls ages 7, 9 and 11, and fiance to Nathan. We live in Ontario, Canada, about an hour south of Toronto. I love to read (Twighlight, Sookie Stackhouse and Mortal Instruments Series are some recent faves), being crafty, cooking and of course, scrapbooking! I’ve been a font-addicted graphic designer for about 12 years now, and got my first start at digital scrapbook designing in late 2003. After a short break in 2006, I came back to designing in late 2008 and have been creating scrapbooking kits since!

I started scrapbooking (paper) in 2001 shortly after my daughter Sophie was born. I went all-out, and even worked at a couple of local scrapbooking stores teaching classes and helping out part-time. I went online sometime in 2003 looking for some paper piecing patterns and other printables and stumbled across a little site called Scrapbook-Bytes. I knew right away that digital scrapbooking was for me, since I am a graphic designer and use Photoshop every day at work! I took a stab at designing in late 2003 and have been doing so since, with the exception of a short break in 2006.

I mostly find myself inspired by colour schemes. I’ll see a colour swatch or a photo/ad/website/fabric with great colours and then usually an idea for a kit will follow. Everything else flows from there!

I’m on an iMac and I love it. I’ve been using Macs for years now in the graphic design field so was really excited to finally get one for myself a few years ago. I maxed out the RAM when I bought it from Apple — it has 2 GB — but would really love to upgrade to a larger iMac in the next couple of years. I use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CS4 for designing. I have a little Canon point-and-shoot camera that I use for taking photos, so nothing fancy there. 🙂 I also bought a Bamboo tablet a few months ago and I use it all the time now!

tipstricks

One of my best time-saving tips for Photoshop…use actions! There are loads of great actions available that are either useful for scrappers or taylor-made for scrappers. You can even create your own and save to use over and over.

My favourite product of my own so far is probably the Cuppycake Collection. I had so much fun making those cute cupcakes! 🙂
