I’m very excited to welcome Penny Springmann to The Digi Files this month! I have to say that I LOVE Penny’s contribution because it has many of my favorite things inside! I love the tone on tone patterned papers and the super fun doodles and scalloped edges and lots of PINK! Penny’s kits often contain very unique elements and adorable alphas that I find myself just HAVING to have! I had a lot of fun reading through her information below and I think it’s awesome that her girl dog’s name is Gary! 🙂 What a fun mom! Here is a closer look at Penny’s contributions to The Digi Files this month:

Hi, everyone! I’m excited to a part of this month’s Digi Files. My name is Penny Springmann and I live in Arkansas with my husband, 2 sons (7 and 6), 1 16 year-old cat, JD, and our brindled mutt, Gary the girl. What can I say, the boys named her. When I’m not designing, I enjoy reading, running, hiking, playing, shopping, and creating culinary creations to test on my family. If you want to learn more about us, visit my personal blog: Penny’s Miscellany.
My first layout I created using Family Time, one of my favorite kits because it was inspired by my love for my family. My second layout is one side of a two-page spread that uses my 12 Month collection. I love how my son totally hammed it up for the camera! I guess I’ve trained him pretty well!
Backup your files! I’ve known many people who have lost everything because they failed to backup their computers. You may back up to disc, a mirrored hard drive, and external hard drive, or my personal choice – an online backup service (I’m sure there are other ways but these are all I could think of right now.). I prefer the online service for three reasons. One, it’s brainless. Once my account is established my backups run at night while I sleep. Two, it’s only about $5.00 a month so it’s not too pricey. And three, my files are stored remotely, so they are safe.
I also have some great tutorials written by myself and my wonderful team members at My Digital Stash (www.mydigitalstash.com) for beginning to advanced digital scrapbookers and hybrid artists.
I completed my first paper album in 2000. It was of a vacation my husband and I took with my sister and her husband. While I enjoyed the process, I did NOT enjoy all the cutting, glue, and bits of trash. I began digital scrapbooking in 2003 after the birth of my first son. I knew I wanted to make a baby book for him, but I have a bad track record with glue and scissors, so I decided to use Photoshop to make some pages. (I was advisor to my high school’s literary magazine a few years earlier, so I had a basic knowledge of PS.) While searching for tutorials, I stumbled across a few digital scrapbooking sites. I was immediately addicted! From the beginning, I created backgrounds and other items for my pages, so the decision to become a designer in the summer of 2006 was a natural progression. Currently, I sell my designs at my own store, My Digital Stash and Sweet Shoppe Designs. I am honored that people choose to use my work to preserve their families’ memories. To this day I am still amazed at the number of wonderful people I’ve met and friendships I’ve made through digital scrapbooking.
Everything! I’ve been inspired by my sons, music, television, colors, etc. Inspiration is everywhere!
Right now I’m designing away on a custom built PC with 4 gigs of RAM, a terabyte of disc space, and an Intel 6700 quad core processor. I have a Hanns-G 28″ monitor. I use Photoshop CS4, Illustrator CS4, Artrage, a Wacom Intuos 3 Graphics Tablet, Canoscan 8800f (scanner), sharpies/pens/pencils, paint, and bits and pieces found here and there.:) If I need to photograph an item, I use my Nikon D50 or my Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7.
My favorite product is my 12 Month Collection, a collection that will grow each month in 2011. Since I began designing, my personal scrapping has taken a back-seat. This year I decided to focus once again on telling my family’s story. As a result, the 12 Month Collection was born. The collection consists of a massive neutral base kit that will be supplemented by individual month kits throughout the year. In addition, each month will also include 4 12×12″ coordinating templates to scrap the month’s photographs. My goal is to create my own 12 Month album, as I design the collection, giving me a completed album in December to print for myself and to give gifts! I am uber excited to get scrapping consistently again!
