Pizza Tour Around the World

As digital scrapbookers, we document our travels with photos and words, but have you ever thought about using food to capture your memories? Jen of Tiny Urban Kitchen used pizzas as a canvas to tell the story of her favorite trips around the world. I really enjoyed reading about how she created each pizza and I bet you will too. If you are a foodie, you will love her blog!

Now I’m craving pizza!

P.S. Congratulations to Elaine for being the random winner for our Reader Challenge! You can see her layout here. All the layouts were just fabulous! If you want to see all the layouts be sure to go through the comments on the original post.  This is a difficult challenge and it’s fun to see what our readers do with it each month. 🙂

For Today…

I (Janet) find inspiration for scrapbooking everywhere…magazines, blogs, real life, photos, books, galleries, and more.  Scrapbooking, for me, is about preserving the thoughts, stories, memories, and photos that accompany this life that I am living.  I love looking for new ways to document little “slices of life.”  One of the ways that I do this from time to time is on my blog, in the form of a blog meme. A blog meme is “a type of Internet meme that requires active participation by the blogger…It’s often a series of questions that a blogger answers to share some personal perspective or experience on random topics.”  There are lot of them out there, but one of the ones I enjoy the most is taken from The Simple Woman’s Daybook.  I love the simplicity of the prompts and the way it is like taking a mental picture of a particular moment of a particular day.  The prompts for this particular meme are:

Outside my window…
I am thinking…
I am thankful for…
From the learning rooms…(if this applies)
From the kitchen…
I am wearing…
I am creating…
I am going…
I am reading…
I am hoping…
I am hearing…
Around the house…
One of my favorite things…
A few plans for the rest of the week:
Here is picture for thought I am sharing…(add your picture here)

See, so simple.  Some days, when I want to blog, but don’t have a lot of time or just want to “capture life as it is right now” I use this.  And it got me to thinking…what a great way to create a “slice of life” scrapbook page.  In fact, I am tempted to try something really fun like recoding these prompts for a whole year…maybe starting with my 34th birthday?  In any case, I decided to start small and take one of  my blog posts and scrap purchase cialis online it. This was February 4th.

And here is another layout by team member Tara:

So how about you?  Why don’t you save a little slice of life today and use these prompts.  I bet you’ll love the result!

Name: Shawna Clingerman

Hometown: Vancouver, Washington

Family: Married to my super awesome computer geek hubby, George; and mommy to my 4 little knights in shining armor, Gareth (10), Owen (7), Reece (6) and Tennyson (3).

Love to spend my “free time” going out with my girlfriends, rockin’ out to Shiny Toy Guns, reading a good book, and maybe even crafting if I can find an excuse to. In reality I end up spending my waking hours running at the gym, cooking dinners that my boys may or may not actually eat, trying to avoid getting buried alive by piles of laundry, snuggling the little guy, chillin’ with the big guys, and of course, designing! My life is filled to the brim and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Two words for you “Dani Mogstad” seriously this girl is THE reason I started scrapbooking at all, and she’s held my hand every step of the way from starting to scrapbook to learning digi scrapping, to encouraging me to be try my little tablet as a designer. I’ve loved “crafting” my whole life, but I was a bit overwhelmed at the idea of stepping into the scrap world. Dani and I met through our hubbies who have been working together for the last 5 or so years… and the rest is history!

I was a digi scrapper for a year or so when I started doodling with a sharpie and scanning it in to make little freebies for my little blog – one day the hubby surprised me and came home with a shiny new tablet! From there my doodles got less and less choppy and eventually Theresa over at NDISB convinced me to start actually putting my doodles up for sale. I’ve been at SweetShoppe since the beginning where I was lucky enough to be one of the original Sugar Babes, so when there was a spot open for a new designer I was able to wrangle my way in! For me, it has always been the encouragement of some really incredible old souls in the designer world that got me to where I am today!

My primary inspiration from the get-go has always been my boys, there is often an adorable photo that gets me thinking about what the perfect kit would be to scrap it! Nothing is more fun for me than scrapping with a kit I made especially for my pic. I also find myself really inspired by adorable little what-nots that I see when I’m out and about, a really awesome ad, a cute hoodie, or a piece of artwork I run into. All those things can really get my mojo churning.

I use a Dell laptop to design. Although Dells aren’t necessarily the most hardy supercomputer out there, they are the most affordable and getting a refurbished Dell allows me to upgrade every few years… For me nothing beats a shiny new laptop and the one I’m using now is a mega 17 incher, so I’ve got loads of room to spread out my files. I have 6.0 GB of Ram, and Windows 7 is my new BFF. I loooove Windows 7 so much that I’m pretty sure I could have my own “I’m a PC and Windows 7 was my idea” commercial.

I am still back in the Dark Ages with CS2, but I was so proud when I saved my designing pennies up to go buy it that I’m a little attached. I go back and forth between Illustrator to draw and Photoshop to design.

I have a second hand Rebel XT that I got a few years back. It’s still going strong so I’m perfectly content with it. I own only one extra lens, my simple Canon EF 50mm f/1.8, that I pretty much use exclusively.

My Bamboo Fun Wacom tablet has been my steady companion for quite some time now, at Christmas I moved up to a Bamboo Touch and I’m super thrilled with it!

favoriteproduct3 I am still in love with “Colorfall”  it’s very me bright colors, rich textures, and lots of fun:

Trina (tjscraps) is one of our talented team members here at The Daily Digi and we found her because of all her great layouts she posted to the Flickr group. She’s actually the top contributor to our group right now with more than 270 posted pages! I love this layout for it’s fun and vibrant colors and the shadowing on the ribbons and title are just fantastic!

I love the bits of storytelling mixed in with the photos on this wonderful layout from sharongrey8. The white background makes the journaling really stand out and I adore the small peeks of patterned papers. Such a fun page to read, I bet it will be treasured for many years!

This layout by kfite7 is going straight into my “must scraplift” file! Great layering of embellishments around the edges and  I love the colorful and playful feeling of the whole page.  Top ten lists are always a great way to document a story! (I also love Rocky & Bullwinkle cartoons!)

This fun mini-album by amyhip documents memories of a recent blizzard. What a great idea! All of the album pages are scrapped in a sweet and simple way to keep the focus on the fabulous pictures. I especially like this one – that’s A LOT of snow!

I love the creative and artsy feeling of Holliewood Studios layouts and this one is just beautiful. I want to reach out and pick those flowers off the page!

Beautiful blending on this layout by A.N.D.R.E.A. – her pages are always so soft and pretty!

I just love the fun and unique embellishments Georgia Visacri finds for her layouts. This has a vintage, but modern feel to it – cool!

Reader Challenge–From the Files

Here are the selections for the FROM THE FILES Reader Challenge for February

The Daily Digi team not only wants you to enjoy The Digi Files each month, we want you to get the most out of the great kits you find inside. To help you do that, we host a challenge so you can find new and fun ways to create a great page out of just a few items. If you’d like to play along, just create a layout of your own using only the items you see below (one item from each of the February Digi Files contributions.) Feel free to recolor or otherwise alter the items, but your page should only include these files. You can also add any fonts you need and small fasteners like staples.

File names:
awall_bemine (15)
nettiodesigns_thedigifiles-page1 (optional)

Here are a few pages we’ve created with these challenge “ingredients”:

Nettio Designs

Layout by Katie. I lowered the opacity on the pink paper for my background to make it a lighter shade of pink. I recolored the button and blue patterned paper to better match the pennant. I also enlarged the photo spaces and rearranged a few things on the template.

Layout by Melissa S. – She turned off several of the template layers and stretched out the journaling mat to extend to the bottom of the page.

We’d love to see what you can do with this challenge! Be sure to leave a link to your layout or project in the comments section of THIS post to be eligible for the gift card drawing. Don’t forget that you can also link to our flickr group if you want to upload your page there. Deadline for entries is 10 P.M. EST on Saturday 19, 2011. Winners will be announced on Sunday morning.

I am married to my high school sweetheart and I have two very busy boys. I have been living in Southern California for 12 years now. Before that I lived in Canada and Wales.

This is a simple tip and something I do all the time. Sometimes we forget what is happening at that moment when we are taking the picture. I always write a little something down about the day in my journal so that I can recall the events when I am scrapping. This is such a little thing but sometimes you do forget how you really felt when you took that picture. I love to write about the “feeling” of the moment and what was around me.

I started digital scrapping back in 05 and then progress into designing. I think it was just something that I enjoyed so much that it was a natural progression for me. I went to school to become an interior designer and then we had to move to another country and I had kids but I have always loved design and this was such a perfect fit for me while I was pregnant that it stuck.

There are times when this is such a hard thing for me. I know for me personally that when I read and have moments to myself when no one is around that I get inspired by everything around me. Creating to me is being free to follow what you see in your minds eye and that is what helps me be creative.

I design on my Dell xp. I love it and I really have no clue about the ram lol. All I know is that this computer has been really good to me.

I use photoshop, art rage and illustrator. Those are my programs I use.

My camera is a Cannon EOS and my new toy I heart is my new 50mm lens. I love this lens.

I also have a wacom tablet called a cintque that you can draw directly on to the screen. This is a huge time saver and my favorite thing I own to design with.

That’s hard because the newest is always my favorite.
