I never feel quite “tip” worthy as I feel like I mostly just blunder my way through everything. One thing however that has become very important to me is journaling. Not just journaling about what happened on someone’s birthday or on a holiday, but spending time telling your stories that are personal or what some might think of as mundane. Our everyday lives are who we are and are what our kids/families are going to remember more than anything and often these types of things go unsaid or unrecorded. Don’t ever worry that you are boring or don’t have anything to say. If it comes from inside of you then it matters and we will be grateful that we got these things out down the road.

Sometimes scrapping can be really therapeutic, but it is scary trying to put it all out there. If you aren’t comfortable letting everyone into your personal life then don’t feel like you have to share in the galleries. It is important to not hold things inside though and we can use our art of scrapping as a means of letting go and healing. I have decided that even though this is a hobby, it is something we can all use to grow as human beings.

howitallstarted3

I had a difficult pregnancy with Miss Stella. I just couldn’t get out that well and was so uncomfortable and miserable almost an entire 9 months. A friend of mine on my mommy board suggested I try scrapping. She talked me through my first pages and showed me where to get awesome freebies and I was instantly an addict! That was late Fall 2007. I had never ever paper scrapped as I really do not see myself as crafty at all. Once I realized what I could do on a computer I found the best creative outlet for myself!

One day last year (Fall 2009) I was just messing around and I decided I would see if I could make a template since I had never tried before. I went to a few pro’s for advice and then I posted the freebie on my blog and it went over pretty well! I got offered a store spot and a year later here I am! It’s been an exciting and fun journey, though tough at times, and I am so grateful to be able to be a part of other peoples scrapping and story telling.

inspirestocreate3

For me, my templates are mostly inspired by own pages. I am a scrapper through and through and I will never ever give that up! So I guess I am inspired by the fabulous designers around the community that I am lucky enough to create for and who I like to shop from. I love a bit of white space, but not too simple!

toolbox3

I use an awesome HP desktop that has done me well so I love it! It has 6GB RAM and runs on Vista which I honestly don’t have any complaints with.

I scrap and create my templates in Photoshop Elements 5.0 and 7.0. It’s what I learned to scrap on and it’s what I know the best!

I have a Canon XS and although I am by no means a pro photog I dream of a camera upgrade quite often. But it’s a trusty little camera and perfect for me and my family!

I also have a Wacom Bamboo Craft along with the programs it came with but I do not use it often. If you see doodles on a template then those are made with this.

favoriteproduct3

My Favorite Product is most definitely my {Grow With Love} sets with Sara Gleason. They are so very personal and it’s such an honor to be able to put them out there for others. The first set, The Marriage Edition, will always hold a special place in my heart.

Un-Digi with the Crafting Chicks

We have a special treat for today’s un-digi – a guest post from The Crafting Chicks!

clip_image001

Nikkala (one of the 6 Crafting Chicks) loves to plan parties, research future purchases, untie knots, read books and magazines! She avoids Wal-Mart at all costs and thinks the hour drive to Target is so worth it.
She is mom to two adorable and hilarious little boys who keep her laughing. Nikkala’s married to a geek who doesn’t understand crafting, but supports it none the less.

clip_image001

Hi, I’m Nikkala one of the gals over at the Crafting Chicks and I’m excited to be sharing some of our projects with you. We share new craft ideas 3 times a week on Crafting Chicks  with detailed tutorials to help you create the same thing at home! With 6 of us we cover a vast variety of projects; from building furniture to sharing recipes to sewing–there’s something for everyone!

Here are some of our favorite crafts. They would all make great Christmas gifts!

Christmas Scrapping Inspiration

There is no doubt about it…the holidays are here!  And if you spend just two minutes in the galleries around the digi world, you can see that people are inspired to scrap this magical time of year! The layouts that I saw are so truly inspirational.  So take a peek at some of my favorites and then put all those holiday kits you are hoarding to good use!

This layout is actually a Thanksgiving layout, but I love it just the same.  I love the close up view of the table and the fact that such a simple (but important) part of the holiday was documented.

I adore this layout.  Making and decorating cookies is one of our family’s favorite parts of the season, so it is fun to see other families having so much fun with it.

Do you have any fun or out of the ordinary holiday traditions?  Don’t be afraid to scrap them.  I love this page about a special pink tree!

When I was a kid, my mom always decorated the tree and we just came home from school and it was done.  So as we have had our kids, letting them be a part of the tree decorating is very important to us.  I love this page that shows the togetherness of this event and of course, I love that the page is journaling heavy.

New Christmas jammies are a part of our yearly traditions as well.  Love this page with a sweet little guy and some super sweet jammies!

What a precious photo!  I love that she captured her little girl admiring the decorations.

The holiday season is filled with all sorts of special events…school parties, town lighting ceremonies, church programs, and more!  Don’t forget to scrap these special events that fill up this time of the year.

I just ADORE this layout!  With the beautiful black and white photos paired with the soft and subtle Christmas colors, it is the perfect start to what I imagine will be an AMAZING December Daily album!

If you are anything like me, you take hundreds — if not thousands — of photos this time of year.  Don’t feel like every photo has to be scrapped or that every photo has to have its own page.  Multi-photo layouts are a great option for big events like this.  For more information, you can see an old post of mine: Scrapping Big Events.

This time of year holds many stories, memories, and thoughts.  Even if you don’t have a specific photo, don’t be afraid clomid to scrap!  I wrote a post last year on What to do if you Don’t Have a Photo.

I just loved this layout.  The sweet picture, the shaped journaling, everything.

So there you have it…scrapping inspiration, holiday style!  Hope you enjoyed it and that you feel motivated to create your own pages!

My name is Kristin and I live in southeastern British Columbia, Canada. I live in a really small mountain town and just love it here. We have been here about 5 years and plan to stay here for as long as we can! I have two kids. A daughter who is seven and a son who is 2. When I am not designing or attempting to scrapbook I enjoy going for day trips with my family.

I almost ALWAYS scrap with templates – I am not ashamed!

tips7tricks3

Here is a great tip – great for designing or scrapping if you use photoshop you can select layers easily if you have your tool on the move tool and then right click on a layer element. You will see a list brought up that displays the top layer and all the layers underneath. This is a very quick way to go through your layers instead of relying on the layer palette or using auto select which sometimes will select a layer that you don’t want.

howitallstarted3

I started scrapbooking in may of 2003. Scrapbook-Bytes had opened a few months prior and I found it through a mommy board. I was wanting to start scrapbooking as my daughter was 3 months old but wasn’t sure I wanted to spend the money on paper supplies. Once I found out about digital scrapbooking I was hooked! Of course I did have to purchase a new computer fairly quickly as the one I had at the time only had 42mb of ram!

inspirestocreate3

Colors and themes mostly. I love to create theme kits as I find my ideas come out more, I have more fun with the elements and don’t get stuck in a rut as much.

toolbox3

I use an imac. I have had it 3.5 years now and couldn’t be happier. I have 4gb of ram. I am still running OS tiger – haven’t upgraded to leopard yet!

I mainly use adobe photoshop but I do use illustrator from time to time. I really want to get better at drawing this next year! I went to college and I do have a certificate in visual art but drawing has never been my forte.

I use a Nikon D80.

I have a Wacom Bamboo Fun.
