GIFTS FOR GUYS

gift

With Father’s Day quickly approaching (June 20, 2010) this seems like the perfect time to talk about gifts for guys! I (Katie) not only have Father’s Day to worry about in June, but also my Husband’s, Father’s, and Brother-in-Law’s birthday as well. Yikes!

For today’s un-digi, I want to share some fun ideas for gifts for guys:

  • a gift bag or basket full of magazines related to one of his interests (sports, racecars, architecture, gardening, etc.) You could also include a subscription to one of the magazines to make it a little bit bigger of a gift.
  • his favorite treats all put together. I know a lot of guys who would love a big basket of beef jerky, nuts, chips & salsa, and cookies.
  • freezer meals for the man who lives alone. This is especially nice for a man (such as a widower) who might be missing homecooked meals.
  • all the fixings to make a nice breakfast. We have a friend who cooks breakfast for his kids every Saturday morning, so we bought him pancake mix, a bowl, a spatula, an apron, and some fancy syrups. He loved it!
  • wash his car, or give a gift certificate to a car wash place.
  • tools or a gift card to a home improvement or auto shop.
  • a subscription to netflix or a coupon to a video rental store.
  • a gift card to itunes
  • a gift card to a favorite restaurant
  • a video game or gift certificate to a video game store
  • a video game system. Even those who aren’t that into video games, usually enjoy playing on the Nintendo Wii and it’s great for stress relief!
  • sporting equipment such as a tennis racket & balls, or a football. A gift certificate to a sporting goods store is another good idea.
  • your time and/or service. Is there really a more meaningful gift? Find some way to serve him by doing one of his chores, or spending time with him.

P.S.  Don’t forget to take our survey. We want to give our readers the very best in digital scrapbooking and your answers will help us do that!

And the Survey Says – Come Tell Us What You Think!

folder

We like to try and do a survey every few months to check in with our readers and see what you think.  It’s a great way to get your anonymous opinions and input to help us make sure we are on the right track!  It’s that time again and we also have this fun template for you at the end of the survey as a little bonus.

It’s a short survey with only 14 mandatory questions (the fill-in-the blanks can be skipped if you want) and will take only a few short minutes for you to take.  So, if you have ever thought to yourself, “I wish they would….” or “I really don’t like….” or even “I really like…”, now is your chance to share those thoughts with us! 🙂  We really appreciate it! 🙂

Hi there!  I’m Elise Hansen and I design under the name Elise’s Pieces Designs.  I like the way “pieces” rhymes with my name (that’s right, my name is not “L-C”) and the way it makes me think of candy!  I live in the “Cowboy West” with my witty husband, Chris, and our three brilliant sons Thomas, Gordon and Neil.  When I’m not doing something scrapbook-related, I also enjoy getting outside with my boys, cooking (and eating!), and reading.

I’m a big fan of really personalizing my layouts and that means journaling!  Sometimes it can be hard to think of what to say on a page, especially when you spend so much creative energy focusing on the pictures.  I try to go beyond the who, what, when (although I think every page must have a date at least!) with my journaling and try to capture what I’m feeling or remembering. Try journaling on a text path, in a shape, or on a frame for a fun effect.

Well, my mom had a nice big brown box full of all of our family photos while I was growing up, so when I was in high school, I took out all of my photos and made myself my very first scrapbook.  I know, not self-absorbed at all!  I made that first book in one of those sticky photo album thing and decorated it with stickers and some ribbon.  A year or so later, I heard about using archival-quality items to preserve your photos, so I re-did the whole thing and my scrapping habit was born.  After paper scrapping for years, I immediately fell in love with digital when I saw a friend’s blog and her layouts that were created digitally. I had Photoshop on my work laptop, so I’d take it home and work on scrapping at night. It didn’t take too long before I was working on a couple of great creative teams and fiddling with design myself. I bought my own copy of CS3 and a few books on Photoshop and really started focusing on designing. My first blog freebie was given away in June 2008 and I started selling my digital kits in September 2008. I found my home (love!) at The Digichick in April 2009.

Clothes, purses, songs… just everyday stuff. I’m pretty sure that my sons don’t really appreciate the time or effort it takes to make a beautiful scrapbook, so I try to find inspiration in the hope that someday one of them will marry someone who will! Ha!

I’m a Mac girl—I work on an iMac with 3GB of Ram. I also use a portable hard drive to store individual kits and files. I use Adobe CS3—mostly Photoshop, but I’m getting better with Illustrator. I use a Canon camera. I use a Wacom Bamboo Pen tablet and I love it!

Imagine That! This kit was inspired by my son—a little genius, of course!—and it was just so fun to create.

Summer Meadows for The Psoriasis Foundation

Each month the designers at Songbird Avenue team up with a designer from around the community and create a collaborative kit, with the proceeds from the kit going to charity!  This month the designers at Songbird Avenue have teamed up with Zoe Pearn to create this gorgeous kit!!  I can’t wait to download these beauties and get scrapping!  It is so versatile, working for both boy and girl layouts!  This month’s revenue from the sale of this kit will go to The National Psoriasis Foundation.  Remember that Songbird Avenue is an official charity!!

If you are new to THE DAILY DIGI, THE DIGI FILES is the product we sell that supports our site.  We do not have advertising of any kind on our site, which means that anything we endorse, we truly stand behind and believe in.  All of the designers that contribute to THE DIGI FILES are selected for their quality designs and reputation in the community.  It’s a great way for you to try some new-to-you designers at a low risk OR try a different style from what you usually scrap with.

At the end of the month ALL of the products in THE DIGI FILES will go into the designers store at full price (which will be at least $5 each).  We will be revealing the products in the THE DIGI FILES one at a time on the designers feature day.  You can see what has been revealed by clicking on ‘Our Amazing Designers’ at the top of this page OR by looking at the detailed images for THE DIGI FILES in the store.
