SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT — Matahati Designs

Spot Lit Wall

One of the things that I love about scrapbooking is that it knows no limits, no borders, no countries.  Digital scrapbooking is being enjoyed by people all over the globe.  I love that I have scrapping friends in almost every continent.  The digi world encompasses the whole world.  So, even in my neck of the woods in Southeast Asia there are a growing number of scrappers — and designers! I am excited to be spotlighting Zakirah of Mathati Designs today.  Zakirah is a young and up-and-coming artist in Malaysia and I am excited to show you some of her stuff.  Before we get to that, though, we need to take a peek at what she created for THE DIGI FILES 7.

I love this mini kit because it forced me out of my comfort zone and into a world of dark and purple! I get so stuck in a rut with the colors that I scrap with and I love being pulled out of it! This kit ended up being perfect for a photo I have been wanting to scrap for a long time!

My name is Zakirah, the person behind Matahati Designs. I’m a 21-year-old university student living in the sunny Cyberjaya, Malaysia. I’m currently pursuing a degree in Multimedia, majoring in Interface Design, which means I draw and deal with markers, soft pastels, talc and cotton pad almost everyday (sigh). You can see most of my university work on my Facebook, and for my official digiscrapping blog, you can check it out here.

I started designing out of fun and curiosity. I wanted to know how far I could go on implementing what I learned in college. Soon, it turned out to be a fruitful hobby, both financially and educationally. Before I started designing, my Photoshop and designing skills weren’t challenged enough because the only “clients” I had was my lecturers. But when I started designing, I have a larger base of “clients” which I learned so much from. I also learned a lot from fellow designers who are more than willing to share their design secrets. Discovering digiscrapping is by far the best thing that had ever happened to me as a design student. It’s a great learning & experimenting field for me.

I’I’ve been designing since June 2008, so that makes it a year and 3 months now (wow, how time flies!).

I’m both, although right now I don’t have much time left for scrapping. I do sneak in some scrapping when I’m stressed. It’s a great stress reliever for me 🙂

I used to spend a lot of time on designing & stuff related to it per week, but since college has started, I’m limiting the time on that to make way for my studies & college activities. I’ve also found that limiting the time on that stuff makes me more productive and have a fresher perspective on designing, LOL. So at the moment, I think I spend around 10-12 hours a week on designing.

I really have a soft spot for one of my latest kits, Birthday Lady:
